Flend Makes History: First Company to Get Egypt's New Startup Classification Certificate
Flend, a digital platform specializing in financing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt, has officially announced that it has received the startup classification certificate. This makes Flend the very first company to earn this accreditation under the Egyptian Startup Charter. The certificate was awarded after Flend successfully met the approved criteria outlined in the Unified National Definition of Startups, which was launched through the Startup Egypt platform. The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) is responsible for issuing these classification certificates as the designated authority. This development marks a significant regulatory step towards standardizing and unifying the definition of startups in the Egyptian market, especially given the rapid expansion of the fintech sector and small business financing. It also highlights Flend's commitment to national standards, which include innovation, reliance on technology, scalability, and investment readiness. Commenting on this exciting news, Nehal Helmy, Co-founder of Flend, shared that receiving the classification certificate as the first company accredited under the National Charter is a testament to the trust placed in their technology-driven and innovative business model. She added that it also confirms Egypt's progress towards building a more organized and transparent institutional environment to support startup growth. This classification certificate allows accredited companies to benefit from regulatory facilitations, simplified digital government interactions, and a package of incentives designed to accelerate growth and attract investments. This could positively impact startups' ability to expand both locally and regionally. This achievement comes at a time when the SME financing sector is undergoing rapid digital transformation, driven by the government's efforts to boost financial inclusion and support the formal economy. With this in mind, Flend continues to develop innovative digital financing solutions aimed at bridging the funding gap and enhancing efficient access to capital, thereby supporting the more sustainable growth of Egypt's entrepreneurship sector.
