Egypt's MSMEDA Wins Prestigious International Award for Boosting Startups and Venture Capital

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) has achieved a remarkable international milestone! For the very first time, they've won a prestigious international award from International Finance Magazine, presented during the recent International Finance Awards. This honor recognizes their outstanding role in nurturing innovative startups and developing their Venture Capital Programme.

Basil Rahmy, MSMEDA's CEO, accepted the award and shared his excitement about this global recognition. He emphasized that this achievement reflects Egypt's international standing and its leadership's commitment to youth, startups, and innovative projects. He also highlighted the continuous support MSMEDA receives from various stakeholders to implement its Venture Capital Programme and fund specialized Egyptian funds dedicated to supporting these projects.

Rahmy pointed out that the significant attention the state gives to startups was a key factor in MSMEDA receiving this international acknowledgment. He noted that this support has enabled the agency to adopt innovative financing tools that contribute to building a comprehensive entrepreneurship ecosystem, capable of supporting startups in their early stages and helping them grow and expand.

The MSMEDA CEO also praised the ongoing collaboration with the World Bank, which provided 50 million euros in funding for the Venture Capital Programme. This program aims to finance innovative startups and offers specialized training courses for young innovators and entrepreneurs, helping them develop their products and services and preparing them to explore regional and global marketing opportunities.

Rahmy affirmed that this collaboration will continue with the support and encouragement of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister and Chairman of MSMEDA's Board of Directors. This partnership will allow Egypt, through MSMEDA and under the supervision of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, to secure more funding. This funding will help expand the base of startups and boost their capacity for growth and export.

The international award ceremony, held in Dubai, was attended by Mohamed Medhat, MSMEDA's Deputy CEO, Hany Emad, Head of the Venture Capital Sector, and Laila Abdel Qader, representing the World Bank.

The International Finance Awards are among the most prominent global initiatives organized by International Finance to honor institutions and key players in the financial and economic sectors worldwide. These awards are based on objective criteria, including excellence in providing innovative financial services, strategic leadership, and achieving a positive and sustainable impact in the markets.

MSMEDA received the award in recognition of its role in establishing and developing the Venture Capital Programme. This program is considered one of Egypt's leading government initiatives, aiming to boost venture investments, finance fast-growing startups, and attract private and international capital to the local market. The program has expanded funding opportunities for promising companies, enabling their expansion and stimulating the overall entrepreneurship environment.

This international recognition is seen as proof of MSMEDA's effective strategy in integrating innovative financing tools with strong government support frameworks. These frameworks empower startups to overcome traditional funding challenges and compete in regional and international markets. It also reflects the global financial community's interest in Egypt's experience in developing a venture capital ecosystem as a fundamental driver for supporting innovation and economic growth.

It's worth noting that the Venture Capital Programme, led by MSMEDA, is part of a broader state strategy. This strategy aims to enhance the ability of startups and fast-growing small and medium-sized enterprises to access appropriate funding in their early stages. This, in turn, contributes to creating new job opportunities, increasing investments, and supporting technological innovation across various economic sectors.

With this win, MSMEDA's position as an active contributor to the developmental finance and entrepreneurship ecosystem, both regionally and internationally, is strengthened. Its experience is now placed among successful international experiences that have made a tangible impact in supporting comprehensive and sustainable economic growth.
