Recent reports have revealed that the WhatsApp application is preparing to launch a new paid subscription version, likely to be called WhatsApp Plus. This move aims to offer additional features and a more personalized and advanced user experience for those who want to benefit from advanced functions within the app.
According to these reports, the paid version won't replace the current free version. The basic service will remain available to everyone as it is, while the new subscription will offer a package of advanced features for subscribers looking for a richer experience.
Among the most prominent expected features in the new subscription are expanded customization options. These include 14 new app icons, along with a variety of background colors and multiple themes to completely change the app's appearance to match the user's personal preferences.
Subscribers will also be able to pin up to 20 conversations at the top of their chat list, a significant increase from the current limit of just three conversations. This gives active users much greater flexibility in keeping track of their most important chats.
Additionally, subscribers will get exclusive stickers and special ringtones, alongside more advanced and visually rich message reactions. This will add a more vibrant and interactive touch to the communication experience within the app.
The company is expected to gradually expand these features, adding new functionalities that will enhance the value of the subscription over time.
Despite this new step, WhatsApp will remain free for basic use. This means the paid subscription will be an optional extra for anyone who simply wants to take advantage of the advanced features.
This initiative is part of Meta Platforms' strategy to boost revenue. Historically, the company has relied on advertising across its other platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
WhatsApp's model, however, is built on privacy, which limits the opportunities for displaying ads within it compared to other platforms.
