Egypt's New Startup ID Sees Strong Interest with 99 Companies Applying in First Week
Just one week after Egypt launched its new Startup Charter, an impressive 99 companies have already applied for the 'Startup ID' certification. This initiative is a big step towards boosting entrepreneurship and supporting business growth across Egypt.
In a move that truly shows the strength of Egypt's national initiative to support entrepreneurship, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) announced that 99 companies have applied for the "Startup ID" classification certificate. This incredible response comes just one week after Egypt launched its first-of-its-kind Startup Charter.
The launch of this Charter was proudly sponsored by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister. This sponsorship highlights the directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to really boost the entrepreneurship environment and make things easier for entrepreneurs and startup owners.
A specialized committee, which includes representatives from the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, venture capital funds, and angel investors, will review applications using precise criteria to make sure all classification conditions are met. Companies can choose between two tracks: an express track that takes five days, or a regular track that takes about two weeks.
Basil Rahmy, MSMEDA's CEO, pointed out that the government is making startup support a top priority. This is because startups play a crucial role in offering innovative products and services, achieving rapid growth, and helping to create new job opportunities.
Rahmy also emphasized how important it is for relevant bodies to work together through the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship. This coordination ensures that companies can fully benefit from the incentives and services the state offers, including those outlined in Law No. 152 of 2020 on Enterprise Development.
This "Startup ID" certificate will allow startups to access a complete package of government support. This will really boost their ability to expand and grow, turning entrepreneurial ambitions into lasting economic impact and helping to strengthen the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy in the long run.
